***COCO(A1221021) has been placed on final on 06/23/26.***He must be pulled prior to 5:00 PM on 07/16/2026 or he will be humanely euthanized. Upon arrival on August 2025 Coco was a well socialized, affilaitive dog who was quickly made available soon after arriving; Noting he had no issues being handled by staff, had a loose posture when interacting with him and would engage in play behavior. A few months after arrival however, Coco grew more and more frustrated in the shelter environment and became increasingly stressed in his kennel; resulting in repetitive barking and jumping in his kennel. Coco continues to display HIGH FAS in his kennel, first noted 1/25/2026, and has not improved since then. For the 6 months Coco has been with us after we noted this behavior, he has been feeling severe and consistent stress in his kennel. He is noted to bark continuously in his kennel in frustration whenever entering or nearing the room he resides in, and has even been noted to increase the FAS of the neighboring dogs in the same room; resulting in neighboring dogs, that previously displayed minimal FAS, starting to bark in frustration as well and ceasing this behavior after being moved away from Coco.Despite medical intervention to help reduce FAS symptoms in the kennel for the entirety of May, we unfortunately observed no improvement in his kennel frustration and continued to note high FAS during that time.Out of kennel however, Coco continues to be a social, affilaitive and tolerant dog and interacts very well with staff. He's been observed rubbing up onto familiar people for attention and displays overt excitement (Jumping up and body loosening up) when seeing familiar handlers. Despite being great with staff and people, Coco has displayed reactivity with other dogs and has been observed displaying high arousal behavior like hyperactivity, barking and overbearing approach when met with other dogs. Coco has played with other dogs prior though, and is considered selective with the types of dogs he tolerates interacting with. On 6/10/2026 Coco received a Quality of Life Assessment and was scored as poor to very poor, due to his extreme and consistent FAS in kennel detailed above. Path Forward: Rescue's or Adopters must commit and *pull* or adopt Coco by 5 PM on 07/14/2026, or Coco will be humanely euthanized. Rescue will also need to have a waiver signed and submitted prior to leaving with the dog.****COCO IS AVAILABLE FOR BOTH ADOPTION AND RESCUE**** EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS:A Rescue Group (RG) may request an extension of an animal’s Needs Rescue Final Date no later than 10:00 a.m. on the noted ‘final date’ via email to the SJRescue@sanjoseca.gov with a cc to a Division Manager or Shelter Operations Supervisor.06/21/26 11:29Coco NEEDS your help. Coco has been experiences extreme frustration in his kennel for 6 months now and is begging to be adopted and taken away from the shelter. He is noted to bark repeatedly in kennel in frustration and has been noted to raise the FAS of neighboring dogs as well, due to his consistently reacting. Despite this in-kennel behavior however, Coco is a wonderfully social dog and displays very affiliative behavior with staff whenever removed from his kennel, though a overwhelming majority of his day is sadly spent in his kennel. Coco is AVAIALABLE for adoption, PLEASE come meet Coco today.04/09/26LONGEST STAY DOG!!Coco has been at the shelter since early August 2025 and he is still waiting for his new forever home. This sweet boy loves getting out of the kennel for walks with his friends and showing off his tricks. Coco has been experiencing a lot of kennel stress from being in the shelter for so long, and is barking a lot in his kennel. Coco isn't asking for much, he just wants someone who will give him plenty of love, lots of fun activity, and all the treats he could ever dream of. So come in today to meet this handsome boy who has been waiting so patiently for his new family. Coco is hoping that that family could be you.1/22/26Meet Coco, a handsome gray Bully mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart—just waiting for the right place to finally exhale. Coco has been at the shelter since August 2025, and while he’s done his best to stay hopeful, it’s clear he’s more than ready for a life beyond kennel walls.Coco is very active and absolutely lives for playtime. Toys are his love language—especially the kind he can chew—and he’d much rather be out playing than stuck in a kennel. Training will be an adventure with him, especially because Coco LOVES treats and will proudly try to persuade you to hand one over with his charming expressions and enthusiasm. With a patient, active adopter, that food motivation can become a powerful tool to help him learn and thrive.Shelter life has been hard on Coco, and he’s shown some dog reactivity in that stressful environment. That said, he has participated in dog playgroups before, and with the right guidance, structure, and decompression time, he has the potential to do well in a more peaceful setting. What he truly needs is a home willing to give him patience, consistency, and space to decompress from the constant noise and pressure of shelter life.Coco isn’t asking for perfection—just a chance. A chance to play, to learn, to relax, and to finally feel safe. If you’re an active adopter with a kind heart and room for a goofy, treat-loving, toy-obsessed companion, Coco is ready to leave the shelter behind and start his next chapter with you.05/12/26 14:33What I did today:Coco enjoyed a refreshing 4.5-mile stroll at Hellyer Park, getting lots of good sniffs, soaking in the sunshine and fresh air. This goofy and affectionate pup thrives on attention and is completely relaxed when you handle his paws or face. He’s a fan of car rides too, happily jumping in and out without any fuss. What to know about this dog:• Great loose leash walker – if he gets caught up in a sniff, he’s easy to redirect• Unfazed by squirrels, geese, cyclists, e-bikes, and other people around him• Gets over-stimulated by other dogs - would do best as an only dog in the home• Responsive to ‘Sit’ and ‘Look’ with excellent treat mannersThree words to describe me:Goofy, Sweet, Affectionate
