He's become an excellent leash walker and is especially comfortable walking alongside a stroller. While he can still be selective about some dogs, he's grown much more relaxed and less reactive when encountering dogs outside the home.One of the biggest surprises in foster care has been how well Sammy does with respectful children. During a recent visit, he quickly bonded with his foster's 5-year-old nephew and even chose to snuggle up and sleep beside him—something he still won't do with the adults in the home! Sammy would likely do very well with dog-savvy children who understand how to respect a dog's boundaries.Sammy is also feline-friendly and does well with cats. He gets along with small dogs and enjoys lounging alongside the resident pets. While he's generally friendly, he can be selective with men and benefits from slow, patient introductions. Women and children, however, tend to win him over quickly.He's a meticulous self-groomer but appreciates help with brushing, especially along his back. Sammy can be a bit picky about food, though he'll never turn down a good beef gullet stick. Toys are still somewhat of a mystery to him, but he's perfectly content relaxing on the deck, enjoying a walk, or simply spending time with his people.Sammy is looking for a home that will appreciate his gentle nature, respect his routine, and give him the love and companionship he has so much to offer.
