Meet Mia Marvis — approximately 7 years old, 7 pounds, and apparently under the impression that personal space is a scam. This Chihuahua/Dachshund mix starts out shy. She’s cautious with new people and likes to take a minute to decide whether you’re trustworthy. But the secret password is freeze-dried meat treats. Once you crack the code, Mia transforms from tiny nervous lady into a full-time emotional support shadow. And we mean shadow. Know the song “Somebody’s Watching Me”? Mia didn’t just hear it. She is it. Go to the bathroom? She’s there. Sit on the couch? She’s pressed against you. Walk to the kitchen? Tiny footsteps incoming at top speed. Once she bonds, this little dog becomes hilariously devoted — the kind of loyal that makes you laugh because she is absolutely convinced you should never experience a single moment unsupervised again. You just have to be willing to earn it. Mia was surrendered to our groomer because she “dared to get fleas,” and her previous owner planned to euthanize her rather than treat them. Thankfully, someone stepped in for her. She has now been fully treated, is flea-free, and is discovering that maybe humans aren’t so bad after all. She will be spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and parasite-free. Mia was previously pee-pad trained and is now going outside most of the time, though we do recommend continuing pee-pad access initially while she adjusts to a new environment. She does great in a crate, rides beautifully in the car, and even handled a 10-hour road trip to San Diego like a seasoned traveler. She’s currently fostered in the Sacramento area (Roseville), where she has appointed herself interim manager of a grooming salon and is available for meet-and-greets most days. That said, we strongly recommend a two-week trial adoption so she can properly evaluate your treat inventory and decide whether you meet her Velcro attachment standards. Adoptions are always free for veterans and $5 for adopters age 55+. Standard adoption application and criteria apply. Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet. Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service. We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.
