Dream

BreedPoodle (Toy)SexFemaleSizeSmallAgeSenior

Dream is a sweet, 10lb poodle who was an unclaimed stray; estimated to be approximately 8 years old now. The rescue brought in to our foster program when the shelter reached out due to medical issues that needed addressing. After spending many months in foster care, Dream has blossomed into a confident companion who enjoys being part of everyday life. She settles well into a routine, is fully housetrained, and is comfortable staying home alone. Whether she's relaxing nearby while you work or joining you for an outing, Dream is happiest simply being with her people. While she is tolerant of other dogs and cats, Dream doesn't actively seek out their company and would be perfectly happy as an only pet. She prefers human companionship and is more likely to entertain herself than engage in play with other animals. Dream has handled many new experiences with ease, including cafes, busy stores, elevators, and unfamiliar environments. She may take a moment to assess something new, but she adapts well when given time and support. Like many dogs with an uncertain past, Dream has a few ongoing care needs that her future family should be prepared to support. She can be uncomfortable with grooming and veterinary handling, and while she has made significant progress, she will need patient caregivers who are committed to continuing that work. Dream also has some resource guarding tendencies around valued items including her toys and other dogs, which is currently being managed, but she'd need continued support if going into a home with another dog. Dream has undergone extensive dental treatment, including repair of an oral fistula. Her adopters will need to be committed to ongoing dental care, including regular veterinary monitoring, professional cleanings as recommended by their veterinarian, and at-home dental care to help maintain her oral health. Dream only has a few teeth remaining and would very much like to keep them! Dream has a Grade II heart murmur that has been seen via and ultrasound. At this time, it does not require medication and does not impact her daily activities. However, it should continue to be monitored by her veterinarian, and cardiac screening may be recommended prior to any future procedures requiring general anesthesia. She is currently maintained on a special diet and has done well with this routine in foster care. Dream is looking for a quiet household, someone who appreciates a senior dog, and will advocate for her comfort. In return, she'll offer quiet companionship, loyalty, and the joy of watching a dog who has overcome so much continue to thrive. She is being fostered in London, ON and can travel within Ontario for the right home.
