Meet Edward

EDWARD NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Edward Best Guess for Breed: Lab and wire haired terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 8 years as of July 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 58 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. See a video od Edward's rescue here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/nx3tXBeO-Gs Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure they can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Edward is Looking For: As you can see in the video above, Edward was rescued off the street in Puerto Rico - he is a sato. We don't know if he was on the street for all of his approximately eight years, but we do know it's a very hard life and this lovely, sweet gentleman deserves better. He is looking forward to getting his own humans for sniffy walks and gentle exploration. And a cushy dog bed and quality kibble. But above all, he wants to know he's safe and loved for all his days, that he will never have to sleep on the street or scrounge for food again. In exchange he has so many adoring gazes - so much loyalty to give. What do you say? Are you Edward's next - and forever - chapter? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog . Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. Adopting Edward — FAQ

How do I adopt Edward?

Use the adoption link or contact details on this page to apply directly with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Washington, District of Columbia. Lily's Second Chance lists Edward to help them get seen — the adoption is handled by that organization.

Is Edward still available for adoption?

Edward's listing is refreshed regularly, but availability can change quickly as dogs are adopted. Always confirm Edward is still available directly with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue before making plans.

Is Edward a senior dog?

Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Edward, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.

Can I foster Edward instead of adopting?

Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Edward's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.

What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Edward?

Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.

Is Edward good with children or other pets?

Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue can tell you about Edward's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
