Meet Andre

Meet Andre – The Big, Goofy Lovebug You’ve Been Waiting For! Andre is a 105-pound 7.5 year old Great Pyrenees/Husky mix with a larger-than-life personality and an even bigger heart. At his core, he’s a goofy, cuddly, attention-loving boy who just wants to be near his people—whether that’s following you from room to room or flopping over for belly rubs (all four paws in the air, of course!).Andre has excellent house manners and is both house-trained and crate-trained—just say “kennel” and he happily heads to his favorite cozy spot. He knows commands like sit, down, and place, and is very treat-motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training. While he’s generally low-energy around the house, Andre does have bursts of excitement—especially on walks or when something catches his attention. He’s currently working on leash manners, as he can pull when excited, but he’s making progress. He enjoys daily walks, playing tug with his rope toy, and batting around his favorite “fishing pole” toy. Andre is good with cats and does well with children. With people, he may take a moment to warm up, but a treat quickly wins him over. He can get vocal when he sees or hears something outside, and may bark when visitors arrive, but he responds well to guidance and settling cues. He’s not the best fit for dog parks or high-energy dog interactions, as he can get overwhelmed and unsure how to channel his excitement. However, with the right match and introductions, he may be able to live with another calm pet. What makes Andre truly special is his lovable, slightly goofy charm. He’s been known to stop people in their tracks just to admire how handsome he is—and once you meet him, you’ll understand why. He gives the best “side eye,” loves a good sniff of anything new in the house, and will happily soak up all the affection you’re willing to give. Andre would do best in a home that can provide structure, patience, and continued guidance—especially around managing his excitement. A yard and a family who can help him feel secure and understood would be ideal. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and entertaining companion who will keep you smiling every day, Andre is ready to be your new best friend. All CAWS pets are fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Andre’s adoption fee is $200. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis—we focus on finding the perfect match for each animal. Adopting Andre — FAQ

How do I adopt Andre?

Use the adoption link or contact details on this page to apply directly with Community Animal Welfare Society in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lily's Second Chance lists Andre to help them get seen — the adoption is handled by that organization.

Is Andre still available for adoption?

Andre's listing is refreshed regularly, but availability can change quickly as dogs are adopted. Always confirm Andre is still available directly with Community Animal Welfare Society before making plans.

Is Andre a senior dog?

Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Andre, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.

Can I foster Andre instead of adopting?

Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Andre's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.

What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Andre?

Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.

Is Andre good with children or other pets?

Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. Community Animal Welfare Society can tell you about Andre's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
