Meet Diesel

Meet Diesel A Young-at-Heart Senior Looking for His Forever Home Don't let the gray around his muzzle fool youDiesel may be 8 years old, but he still has plenty of energy and a playful, puppy-like spirit! This handsome Hound/Pit Bull mix came to us as a stray in heartbreaking condition. He was emaciated when he arrived, but with lots of good food and care, he's been steadily gaining weight and continues to fill out beautifully. Now he's ready to find a family of his own. Diesel is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. He's an affectionate, loving dog who enjoys being with people, but he's still working on his manners. Diesel would benefit from training to help him learn boundaries and appropriate behavior. When he gets overly excited, he can become pushy and mouthy, so we feel a home with children ages 10 and older would be the best fit. We'd also like any children in the home to come to the meet-and-greet to make sure everyone is comfortable together. We are unsure how Diesel does with other dogs, so a dog meet is required before adoption. He is also very pushy around cats, so if a home has feline friends, extreme caution and very slow introductions are essential. Diesel has been through a lot, but he hasn't let that take away his loving personality. He's looking for a family that will give him patience, guidance, and plenty of opportunities to burn off his energy while enjoying the life he deserves. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Diesel may be waiting just for you. Interested in adopting? Adopting Diesel — FAQ

How do I adopt Diesel?

Use the adoption link or contact details on this page to apply directly with Humane Society of Warren County in Front Royal, Virginia. Lily's Second Chance lists Diesel to help them get seen — the adoption is handled by that organization.

Is Diesel still available for adoption?

Diesel's listing is refreshed regularly, but availability can change quickly as dogs are adopted. Always confirm Diesel is still available directly with Humane Society of Warren County before making plans.

Is Diesel a senior dog?

Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Diesel, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.

Can I foster Diesel instead of adopting?

Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Diesel's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.

What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Diesel?

Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.

Is Diesel good with children or other pets?

Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. Humane Society of Warren County can tell you about Diesel's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
