Meet Ace

Meet Ace! At 10 1/2 years young and 65 pounds, Ace is proof that age is just a number. This handsome boy is sweet, polite, friendly, and already knows how to be a great housemate. He’s fully housetrained, has good manners around the house, and is happiest when he’s spending time with his people. Ace enjoys a simple life filled with walks, exploring the yard, carrying around his favorite stuffed toys, and keeping an eye out for squirrels and other backyard critters. He especially loves car rides and is always ready to join you for an adventure. When treats are involved, Ace can even show off his impressive skill of catching them right out of the air. He’s a smart dog who knows cues such as “come,” “sit,” “wait,” and “get on.” On leash, Ace is easy to walk and enjoys getting out for daily exercise, though he wouldn’t mind a few extra opportunities to stretch his legs and strengthen his hind end. Ace gets along well with other dogs and has a friendly, easygoing personality with the people he meets. While his foster family hasn’t had the opportunity to see him around young children, he would likely do well with respectful kids ages 6 and up. Because he’s a larger dog who can be enthusiastic when seeing wildlife and critters on walks, a home without frail seniors or very small children would be the best fit. What Ace wants most is companionship. He forms strong bonds with his people and prefers not to spend long periods alone. He’ll thrive in a home where someone is home much of the time, works remotely, or enjoys bringing their dog along for daily activities. When left by himself, Ace can become anxious and vocal, so he’ll do best with adopters who understand his desire to stay close to his favorite humans. Ace also has a few medical needs that his future family should be aware of. He has mast cell tumors on his right shoulder and left wrist that are being managed under veterinary guidance. He takes daily medications and supplements to help keep him comfortable and feeling his best. His adoption will include 6 months of the medications and supplements. Despite these challenges, Ace approaches life with a happy spirit and a wagging tail. He’s settled nicely into foster care, loves being part of the household, and is ready to find a family that will appreciate the loyal, affectionate companion he is. If you’re looking for a devoted best friend who will happily accompany you on car rides, neighborhood walks, and quiet evenings at home, Ace may be the perfect match. Adopting Ace — FAQ

How do I adopt Ace?

Use the adoption link or contact details on this page to apply directly with NorCal German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue in Menlo Park, California. Lily's Second Chance lists Ace to help them get seen — the adoption is handled by that organization.

Is Ace still available for adoption?

Ace's listing is refreshed regularly, but availability can change quickly as dogs are adopted. Always confirm Ace is still available directly with NorCal German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue before making plans.

Is Ace a senior dog?

Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Ace, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.

Can I foster Ace instead of adopting?

Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Ace's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.

What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Ace?

Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.

Is Ace good with children or other pets?

Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. NorCal German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue can tell you about Ace's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
