Meet Abigail

Meet Abby- This beautiful 6 year old bluetick girl ended up at a rural shelter during a storm. She's been staying with a foster family for the past month, and by all accounts she made herself right at home. She figured out the bell system on the doors and now rings the front door bell when she's ready for a walk or a car ride. She's not subtle about what she wants, and honestly, that's part of the charm. Abby is a people-dog through and through. She loves everybody, happily cuddles with adults and older kids alike, and is comfortable enough in her surroundings to fall asleep on the couch and snore. Loudly, presumably, because she's a bluetick and they commit to everything. Cats are a no, and she prefers to be the only dog in the home. She's been around kids 10 and up without any issues. She does pull on leash when she's excited, but settles into a routine well- she just needs someone consistent to establish one with her. Abby is crate trained and working on her house training. She does get nervous during storms, so a patient home that'll let her ride it out inside is important. She's an easy dog to love. She just needs a home that has enough room in the routine for a few extra car rides and couch naps. Abigail is currently in foster in Tulsa, OK and is adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

How do I adopt Abigail?

Use the adoption link or contact details on this page to apply directly with Helpless Hounds Rescue in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lily's Second Chance lists Abigail to help them get seen — the adoption is handled by that organization.

Is Abigail still available for adoption?

Abigail's listing is refreshed regularly, but availability can change quickly as dogs are adopted. Always confirm Abigail is still available directly with Helpless Hounds Rescue before making plans.

Is Abigail a senior dog?

Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Abigail, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.

Can I foster Abigail instead of adopting?

Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Abigail's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.

What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Abigail?

Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.

Is Abigail good with children or other pets?

Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. Helpless Hounds Rescue can tell you about Abigail's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
