Meet Boogie
Meet Boogie! A gentle almost nine-year-old, 80-pound Shepherd/Rottweiler mix currently living in Redwood City, CA, whose journey is nothing short of miraculous. Boogie has a sleek black coat and a heart to match his size. He is gentle, laid-back, and deeply affectionate, equally happy curling up for a nap, lounging in the yard, or heading out for a sniff-filled walk or drive. In fact, Boogie is a true sunshine enthusiast who would happily spend all day lounging outside, soaking up the warmth and enjoying the fresh air. Friendly, easygoing, and completely without an edge, he’s a big dog with a soft manner, and the first thing anyone notices about him is how gentle he is (and, if applicable, how cute he looks in a little sweater). While he loves his people, he’s also an independent boy. Give him a sunny spot to relax and a nice walk, and he's one happy pup! He knows his basic commands (Sit, Down, Stay, Go Potty) and has graduated from a board-and-train program that included work on leash manners. While he will never be 100% perfect, and still barks at other dogs on walks or drives, he is now very manageable. He hasn’t lived with children, so we can’t speak to that from experience, but he’s met children on walks and done fine. He has dog friends and could live with another calm dog with proper introductions, or with his best friend, Baby (8 years old, 74-pound spayed female, also available for adoption). Boogie is also comfortable with small dogs. For him, compatibility is more about a dog's personality and temperament than size, so a calm, compatible canine companion could be a wonderful match. He should not be in a home with cats. He’s house-trained, can stay home alone, and is genuinely easy to live with. He settles quickly and asks for very little, except maybe a Greenie treat. Like most dogs in a new house, he’ll take an interest in the kitchen bin, so a lid or a closed door sorts that out in the first week. He has skin allergies and is used to medicated baths as part of his routine. Boogie also has arthritis, so his new family should be prepared to support his comfort and mobility as part of his ongoing care. He still enjoys his walks and spending time outdoors, especially when there's a sunny place to stretch out and relax. Boogie comes with support! His medical insurance is covered for his first year, along with a consultation with a professional trainer if you’d like one. As with Baby, we’d much rather begin with a two-week foster-to-adopt trial than a handover. There’s no pressure, and he comes back to us if it isn’t working for either of you. Boogie was pulled from Oakland Animal Services in December 2024, shortly before he was due to be euthanized, and has been in a loving foster home ever since. He and his best friend Baby would love to be adopted together but can also be placed separately (they are currently fostered separately). Boogie is in Redwood City, California, and we’re open to a long-distance adoption. We’ll handle getting him to you.
