Meet Moonpie

Meet Moonpie! If you're looking for a tiny, 9-pound shadow with a huge heart, Moonpie might just be your perfect match. This adorable 8.5-year-old Chihuahua mix is all about love, cuddles, and being close to his people. Moonpie has been the ultimate work-from-home companion in his foster home. He'll happily curl up nearby for a cozy nap, keeping you company without demanding your attention while you work. And when you're finished working, he's always ready to soak up all the affection you have—and he'll happily return it! He's potty-trained and has great house manners. Moonpie will go outside every few hours to do his business, but he's also comfortable using a pee pad when needed. He relaxes quietly in a crate for a few hours if you need to step out. One of Moonpie's favorite pastimes? Finding the perfect sunny spot to stretch out and soak up the warmth, whether it's by a window or out in the yard. Moonpie is friendly with the resident dogs and has also done well around cats. Sweet, affectionate, and easygoing, Moonpie is ready to bring warmth, companionship, and lots of snuggles to his forever home. Adopting Moonpie — FAQ

How do I adopt Moonpie?

Use the adoption link or contact details on this page to apply directly with Oakland Animal Services in Oakland, California. Lily's Second Chance lists Moonpie to help them get seen — the adoption is handled by that organization.

Is Moonpie still available for adoption?

Moonpie's listing is refreshed regularly, but availability can change quickly as dogs are adopted. Always confirm Moonpie is still available directly with Oakland Animal Services before making plans.

Is Moonpie a senior dog?

Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Moonpie, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.

Can I foster Moonpie instead of adopting?

Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Moonpie's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.

What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Moonpie?

Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.

Is Moonpie good with children or other pets?

Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. Oakland Animal Services can tell you about Moonpie's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
