Meet Wolfie
Some dogs make an impression the moment you meet them. Wolfie is one of those dogs. After spending nearly six months at the Valdez Animal Shelter, this sweet senior made the journey to Mat-Su in hopes that a change of scenery would help him find the forever home he deserves. Wolfie isn’t here because he’s done anything wrong. In fact, he’s been an absolute gentleman. Sometimes the right family just takes a little longer to find. Wolfie’s life changed dramatically after the loss of his owner. He was used to a quiet home filled with gentle voices, cozy cuddles, and plenty of space to explore. Through all of life’s changes, he’s remained the same kind, loyal dog who’s simply looking for another person to love. Wolfie has wonderful manners that make him an easy companion. He’s potty trained, walks nicely on a leash, and knows his basic cues. He’s a mellow soul who enjoys taking life at his own pace, happily stopping to sniff the world around him before returning home to lounge by your side. While he’s settled into slower walks these days, Wolfie has already proven he’s capable of incredible things. With patience and consistency, he previously lost nearly 50 pounds on his journey to a healthier lifestyle—a testament to both his determination and resilience. Having both Akita and German Shepherd breeds (though our best guess), Wolfie embodies some of the best qualities of each breed. He has the quiet independence and occasional stubborn streak of an Akita, balanced beautifully by the unwavering loyalty and devotion of a Shepherd. Once you’re part of Wolfie’s circle, you’re part of it for life. Wolfie previously lived successfully with other dogs, and we’ve found him to be respectful with most canine companions. He simply prefers to avoid the competition that can come with more dominant male dogs. If you have a dog at home, we’re always happy to arrange a meet-and-greet to help ensure everyone is a good fit. Wolfie has been an incredibly easy dog to love. He’s gentle, well-mannered, and asks for very little beyond a comfortable place to rest, a few leisurely walks, and someone to share life with again. We know his perfect match is out there, and we can’t wait for the day this deserving boy finally gets to go home.
