Meet Maggie, an 8-year-old Basset Hound/Beagle/Labrador Retriever mix who is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. This sweet baby has had a rough time lately, as her owner has been diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma and is now in hospice care. Maggie had been living with her owner and another dog in a car for over a year. Because of this, when her owner had a medical emergency, Maggie was taken to an emergency shelter with her 7-year-old chihuahua companion, and through a series of unfortunate events, the chihuahua was lost on a walk at the shelter by a worker. Through all of this heartbreaking change, Maggie has remained a gentle, loving girl who is doing her best to adjust with the help of a foster home. Maggie is a sweet, affectionate dog who loves to snuggle, enjoys car rides and is happiest when she’s close to her people. Maggie loves to play with toys and go on walks. She has lived with both dogs and cats and does well with them. She is currently in a foster home with another dog and two cats, where she continues to settle in and thrive with companionship. Maggie recently had a complete veterinary exam with a full bloodwork panel done (currently awaiting these results and can share any information they provide) to ensure she’s healthy. Maggie was still receiving regular veterinary care despite her owner’s circumstances, and at this time her veterinarian found her to be in overall good health. Maggie’s only current concerns are that she could stand to lose a little weight (she is currently 33 lbs), and she has a luxating patella (a kneecap that occasionally slips out of place). She has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication by her vet to alleviate any pain in the hopes that a more stable environment and rest can help. Despite this, Maggie hasn’t slowed down at all and is going on daily walks with her foster carer and their own dog. At 8 years old, Maggie still has so much love to give. After losing so much of what she’s known, she is looking for a family who will give her the stability, care and companionship she deserves. Whether it’s curling up on the couch for a cuddle or going for a car ride, Maggie just wants to be with her special personIf you think you could provide Maggie with the loving home she deserves or know someone who can, please reach out to Heather at 706-809-4050. Sharing her story also helps more than you know.
