Meet Mozart
Meet sweet Mozart! He may not be play the piano, but he brings so much joy! He is just one of those really happy doggies, and his personality matches his sweet face. About 7 years old and 9.5 pounds, he is the perfect age and size to slide right into his new family with ease. His foster parents have watched him thrive in their home with another dog of similar size. But he has also spent time with visiting bigger dogs and has done wonderfully. He is friendly to everyone and ready for any available hands to pet him. He'll let you know when he needs some love with a sweet nudge of his head under your free (or not free) hand. And once he is had his quota of pets from his humans? He will jump down to cozy up on the floor, or a dog bed, or even in his crate (with a dog bed of course!). And at that point, he flops over on his back and passes out belly up. He sleeps well through the night, and is very adaptable - will sleep on floor, in bed, in dog bed or in a crate as long as he is in the same room as his humans. He does very well in a crate when left alone in the house, and is completely house trained when taken out on a regular schedule (he has not had one accident in the fosters house!). He whines just a bit in the car, but with more exposure we think that would improve. He had not walked on a leash very much before he came into our care, so he is working on better loose-leash walking, but has improved so much already with some "look at me" and treat-training, and he is not super reactive to other dogs on leash. He knows "sit" and "bed" and is working on "lay down" and "wait" and is food motivated and smart. He has moderate energy - is not a huge fan of toys but does love to chase a ball. He would do well in a house with other dog(s) but would also be ok in a home where he gets all the attention. As a Maltese-Yorkie mix he will need frequent brushing and regular grooming to keep his beautiful hair looking it's best (which also means he sheds very little!) He looks at you so sweetly - you fall in love immediately. Mozart was given away by his owner for free to a stranger on Facebook, and luckily for him she was a caring person who got in contact with our rescue due to his medical needs that had been neglected. He came to us with severe dental disease. He has bounced back wonderfully from his neuter and dental surgery (where he had 10 teeth removed). The vet prioritized the worst dental work needed, while not keeping him under anesthesia too long, but he does still need an additional dental and extractions in approx. 6 months, which his owner will need to have done.
