Meet October

October – Chocolate Female, 4 Years, 70 lbs. WHO IS THIS? OCTOBER, REMEMBER HER? Yes, unfortunately, October is back with us. And here she is with her two wonderful fosters, celebrating her graduation from obedience training! First, a BIG THANK YOU to her fosters for giving October their time, patience and love, and for investing in her training. It's obvious they put a lot of effort into helping her learn and succeed. Unfortunately, we discovered that October needed a little more guidance and continued training before she was ready for her forever home. Sometimes the first attempt doesn't work out, and that's okay. That's why we're here! October is back in our program and ready for another chance. We're looking for the right match, a family that understands her needs and is willing to continue working with her. Her happily ever after is still out there! A LITTLE ABOUT OCTOBER: October is a very smart, energetic girl who catches on quickly. She has completed beginning obedience training and knows several basic commands. She's still working on consistency, but she's a willing student! Here's what her fosters have shared: ✓ Rides beautifully in the car. ✓ Loves playing tug-of-war and fetch. ✓ Enjoys long walks and currently gets approximately four miles of exercise daily. ✓ Has learned sit, down, here, stay, leave it and other basic commands. ✓ Has learned to use a dog door and will let you know when she needs to go outside. ✓ Sleeps in the bedroom with her fosters. She hasn't needed a crate, but could potentially learn. ✓ Even knows how to SHAKE! A FEW THINGS HER FUTURE FAMILY SHOULD KNOW: October is still a work in progress, and we want to set her up for success. We believe in being honest about every dog's needs so we can find the right match. She can be reactive toward other dogs on leash and will need continued training and management. She has not been tested with children. October is an exuberant girl who can jump and could easily knock a child over. We do not recommend a home with young children. She's still learning appropriate manners and needs consistency, structure and continued obedience work. She has seasonal allergies and a skin condition that can cause oily skin and coat. She may require ongoing skin care and management. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? An experienced, committed adopter who understands that training doesn't end with graduation! October needs someone willing to continue working with her, provide appropriate exercise, establish boundaries and give her the consistency she needs. Although October previously lived with smaller dogs, we are recommending that she be the only dog in the home. She has plenty of love and energy to share, and we want her to have the individual attention, structure and guidance she needs to succeed. We want to find October a home where she can thrive, not just another place to land. She's a smart girl with plenty of potential. She just needs the right person willing to help her get there!
