Meet Smokey
Smokey is a male dog who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with probable severe glaucoma in the right eye (OD), a painful condition that can significantly impact his comfort and quality of life. Due to behavioral concerns, further diagnostics and treatment have been unable to be performed. Without appropriate evaluation and intervention, Smokey is at risk for ongoing pain, worsening ocular damage, and additional complications. Prompt veterinary assessment and treatment are recommended to address his condition and relieve potential discomfort. The specialized veterinary care and handling support needed to safely evaluate and manage Smokey’s condition exceed what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite his medical concerns, Smokey requires a safe, compassionate placement where he can receive further veterinary evaluation, appropriate treatment for his suspected glaucoma, and ongoing care to support his comfort and quality of life. An experienced adopter, foster, or rescue able to work with his behavioral needs and facilitate veterinary care is needed. Smokey is at risk for euthanasia due to medical concerns beyond our scope of care. If you are interested in adopting, fostering, or rescuing Smokey, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov. When emailing, please include a callback number.
