Adoptable pet: Meet Bonnie

The Humane Society of Scott County in Davenport, Iowa, is featuring Bonnie, an approximately 1-year-old dog who arrived at the shelter in April as a stray. Staff member Jo Nicholson introduced Bonnie to the public and noted that the young dog is very clingy — Nicholson said Bonnie "doesn't understand personal space." Bonnie is available for adoption through the shelter, and staff encourage people who are comfortable with an affectionate, attention-seeking dog to consider her. The humane society regularly brings adoptable animals to community events, giving potential adopters a chance to meet dogs and puppies in a relaxed setting. One upcoming opportunity to see adoptable animals and support the shelter is the Rescue Rocks Music Festival, set for June 6 from 2:30 to 10 p.m. at the Tangled Wood. The festival will raise funds for the humane society and will include live music, a silent auction, and food and drink specials; adoptable animals, including puppies, will also be on site. The shelter also seeks foster homes for animals with a range of needs. The Humane Society of Scott County uses foster care for neonatal litters, dogs with behavioral needs, hospice cases, and sometimes animals recovering from medical procedures. People interested in fostering can submit applications through the shelter’s website. Volunteers and donors play an essential role at the non-profit shelter. Volunteer applicants must complete an introductory process described on the shelter’s site, and donations of money, goods, or help hosting fundraisers are welcome. For more information, call the shelter at 563-388-6655, visit hssc.us, or stop by 2802 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport, Iowa.
