Pawcast, Episode 15: Northeast Ohio dogs in dire need of adoption

The Cleveland 19 News Pawcast, hosted by Rachel Vadaj, recently focused on the urgent need for adoption of senior dogs in Northeast Ohio. City Dogs Cleveland reported being overwhelmed with over 30 dogs in just two days, highlighting the strain on local shelters. Many of these dogs have been waiting for years, with some having spent over half a decade in shelters. Rachel's segment, 'Rachel's Rescues,' showcased several dogs who have been waiting for adoption for several years. Rutger, a nine-year-old American Bully, has been with the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project since August 2020. Winger, a six-year-old mixed breed, has been with the same project since June 2020. Murdock, also six, and October, a five-year-old Terrier Mix, have been waiting since March 2021 and March 2022, respectively. Choco, a four-year-old Labrador Retriever, and Remi, a three-year-old mixed breed, have been in care since April 2023. Despite the challenges, there has been some success, with a 70% adoption rate for featured dogs. Notably, two dogs who had waited the longest—seven years—have finally found homes.
