Washington National Cathedral to Celebrate All God’s Creatures at Annual Blessing of the Animals

Washington National Cathedral is set to host its annual Blessing of the Animals service on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET. This joyous event, held outside the Cathedral’s west front, celebrates the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. The service will include special prayers, blessings, and an opportunity for community members to gather with their pets. This year’s event is in partnership with City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue and Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue focuses on rescuing adoptable cats and dogs from overcrowded shelters, while Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue specifically rescues senior dogs from shelters and owner surrender situations, often those who have faced neglect, abuse, or medical hardship.
