Meet Diesel IX
Howdy! My name is Diesel IX! I am a gentle giant that is on the hunt for my forever home! I was very loved in my previous home and after changes in my owner's life, he made the tough decision to surrender me. I am 9 years old but don't let that shy you away because my foster mom says I have alot of spunk and act younger than my age once I get comfortable! Because of being with my previous owner all of my life and then in a new place with new people, I needed time to warm up and settle in. I am shy with new people, young and old but once I get comfortable, I'm a sweet and fun boy! I am house trained, great on leash, non-reactive, have become crate trained but will calmly whine voicing my displeasure with it, and at night I sleep on a dog bed in the humans room. I have become trustworthy and can be left to roam the home for short periods of time when the humans are away. I am a built in alarm system and will alert the humans when someone is at the door. I live with an 8 year old female boxer/pit mix and we get along fine and there is no resource guarding of food, toys, or treats seen. I live with 3 teenagers and I love going to them for attention. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig and I ignore the neighbor dogs behind us when they bark. I like to be with the humans outside because I know they will give me water from the hose which is one of my daily joys! I'm not crazy with baths initially but once I see I am getting a good scrub and towel dry, I'm all in! I do not like ear drops in my ears and will try to get away like my life depends on it, but I love riding in the car, playing with the vacuum when my foster mom vacuums, playing with a dryer wool ball, getting pets and love from humans, treats, greenie chews, laying on the couch or recliner, and daily walks! I have really settled into routine in my foster home and come out of my shell letting my personality and playful side show! If you are looking for an older boy that will happily accompany you on car rides or daily walks, I'm your guy! Call the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you! Is Diesel IX a senior dog?
Yes. Every dog listed on Lily's Second Chance, including Diesel IX, is a senior — generally age 7 or older. Senior dogs are often already house-trained and calm, and they wait the longest for a home.
Can I foster Diesel IX instead of adopting?
Some shelters and rescues offer a foster-to-adopt path — you foster first, then complete the adoption if the match feels right. Check Diesel IX's profile for the organization's contact details and ask them directly whether a fostering option is available.
What should I expect in the first weeks after adopting Diesel IX?
Senior dogs typically have a brief adjustment period of a few days to a couple of weeks as they settle into a new home. They may be quiet or shy at first, then relax once they feel safe. A calm routine, a comfortable place to sleep, and patience usually make the transition smooth. Most senior dogs settle in faster than puppies because they are already past the demanding early stage.
Is Diesel IX good with children or other pets?
Compatibility depends on the individual dog's history and personality more than age or breed alone. Austin Boxer Rescue can tell you about Diesel IX's known behavior around children, cats, and other dogs. Many organizations offer a meet-and-greet before finalizing an adoption to make sure the match is right for everyone.
